Hi guys. Welcome to Nursing.org. My name is Caroline Porter Thomas, and we are going over the video series of Dos and Don’ts of Nursing School. This is the third video out of five, so let’s get started.

This video is going to cover don’t get stuck a the study rut, and what I mean by that is we’re all different people, we all have different backgrounds, we all have different ways that we learn, we all have different things that work for us. So when you realize that something is not working, or you’re not getting the results that you want or need, then try something different.

So, I know in nursing school, a lot of times they’ll spend time talking about ways to study. And really stay open to those, but also stay true to what works for you. So I know a lot of people that said group study is just the thing to do, the thing to do. You got to do group study. So I really tried it. I tried to do group study. I tried with really smart people, and it just really didn’t work for me. I just couldn’t focus. I had a really difficult time studying with other people. It didn’t work for me. And I wanted it to work so bad that I felt bad not showing up.

But, I just had to try different things.

So I started studying by myself, and it worked for me. Other people, of course, they’re the opposite. They work with a partner, they’re better with a group study, and that’s just the best thing for them. So, ultimately, I just want to encourage you to not feel bad about joining or leaving groups, or trying different things, trying to study at home, trying to study at the library, trying to study early in the morning, trying study late at night. Just try all different kinds of things and see what works for you.

Another thing that worked for me is like even if I only got two hours of sleep was waking up super early and studying before an exam, and of course I would crash after the exam. But like I said, some people need a full night’s sleep, and then they just perform better off that. So really listen to your body during this time. Do what you feel like you need and leave it at that. Be OK with that.

All right guys, I hope you enjoyed this video, and I cannot wait to see you in the next video. So please subscribe to our channel. And remember to stay focused, stay driven, and come back to Nursing.org all the time. I’ll see you in the next video. Bye.
